5 out of 5 stars kinda short but really good   November 4, 2008

I figured that with all the people pissing and moaning about the EA security software, someone would actually like to hear about the game itself.

It's short, but it's still a really fun game. The game is the "special mission" Psycho is given in Crysis right after you blow the carrier as Nomad and right before the Tank level.

The story is pretty good, a little weaker then the first but doesn't have as many holes in it. You'll just have to play it to find out what I mean. There are new toys to play with:
Weapons: FGL40 grenade launcher which has two firing modes; impact detonation and remote detonation, AY69 MMG hand gun which can replace your pistol but it rides up like the SMG so it's difficult to use and the PAX (I don't remember what it stands for), a very nice gun that's a slow reload but unlimited ammo and boy does have a kick to it. It can take out the little mini drones with one shot.
Vehicles: ASV armored vehicle and a hovercraft.
Grenades: the FGL40 has an EMP and a frag grenade. As for throwing grenade; we now have a claymore mine (those are really fun), AT (anti-tank) land mine (it blows the Humvees and everything else in a 15 foot radius sky high) and a "nanogrenade" - it's an EMP type grenade that disables nanosuits (the KPA has the suits and grenades too, so watch out because there are more of them in warhead then in crysis).
There is also a new turret, anti-vehicle, it's slow but pretty powerful.

The graphics are as breathtaking as the original, even on the lowest settings. The sound is great too, the only thing is it isn't the same guy who does the voice for Psycho but it's another London accent (think Jason Statham's accent) so it's not too bad.

You also get what's called "Crysis Wars", it's its own disk of a multi-player game. I haven't installed it but from what the booklet says i figure it's alot like Halo, you can play online or play in a LAN (Local Area Network) party. There is a death match game and power struggle game. Power struggle is like king of the hill, play as US or KPA. Sounds fun but I don't have anyone to play with.

If you want a long, "keep you on the edge of your seat game", this may not be what you're looking for. But for someone that likes FPSs or just want something to do while your bored, this is a great game.

5 out of 5 stars An amazing game, easily outclasses Crysis   September 27, 2008

The game itself is amazing, just as all the reviewers say. And I am able to play through at stock enthusiast settings (no mods or tweaking) at 1680x1050 DX9 on a C2D E6550 2.33ghz, 8800GT 512MB (AMP OC), 3GB RAM and on Windows Vista, and achieve around 25fps which in the land of Crysis is playable, turn it down to 1440x900 for a smoother game in windowed mode.

However...for anyone experiencing crashes in the game, the display driver stopped responding etc. I think I've figured out what the cause of the problem was.
I checked everything! My PSU (which is a modular powercooler 520W), my Fan speeds, my Overclocked settings, and also v-sync settings and triple buffering but in the end none of the above were the cause. In fact the last two actually made it a whole lot better (less/no visible vertical tearing!)

The DRM issue I'm sure all of you have heard of by now, but I was sort of sceptical at first and thought sure I only really plan on using one PC to play it on for the foreseeable future and so I bought the game with a student discount, bargain I thought. And it is a really polished and amazing game, easily some of the best production values I have ever seen. PC Gamers have never had it so good, especially with the dry years of late, Warcrafts...Sims...

However...the securom which is installed onto your computer (no exceptions, it will be with or without your permission, not that it asks of course) really did mess up the game at points for me.
It was the cause of the regular game crashes that I experienced, after using the *securom uninstaller* that is provided on their website the game has not crashed yet and is finally worth what I *paid* money for....

Tsk, tsk, tsk. The people who are defending drm here really don't have a clue. Protecting Intellectual property and fighting piracy do not have to be connected with such performance reducing protocols.

Oh and by the way, I now run the *ReLoaded* version of Crysis Warhead on my computer, and ran the securom uninstaller after installation to get rid of any trace of that "software" - I own the game and therefore by law I am entitled to run it on my computer.

Here is a link from the SecuROM Website for the uninstaller tool:
http://www.securom.com/support/SecuROM_Uninstaller.zip

I just find it really saddening that I had to use a *DRM-Free* copy of Crysis Warhead, which only the people with Broadband have the chance of obtaining to play smoothly on my computer.

I'd recommend that those who are on the sidelines to wait a little longer til taking the plunge and let EA sort out all the problems and patch the game. Play the first Crysis, it's DRM-free, and you can find it for really cheap these days.

But yeah...the game itself is quite frankly amazing, in my opinion it's what the Halo series could've been, way back in 1999 when I first saw the previews for it. But...well Halo, Halo 2 & 3 weren't really my cup of tea. I prefer games like Goldeneye, Black and now Crysis (& Warhead!). You will play through this twice minimum and you must play it on Delta for the best experience 2nd time round! Although people say 6 hours runtime, you will play through it twice so think more 12 hours - first time round will take longer because you will not know where enemies are and various set-points. But 2nd time round it will be harder but you know your way and you're familiar with the weapons (even for Crysis people, the new weapons and what they've done with the old ones are great. More grenades, yay!)

I don't care if people call me a pirate, because it would just be out of ignorance - I own the game, I just choose to install the DRM-Free & SecuROM-Free onto my computer (which I also use for other things and so I don't want malware or rootkits on there...). The fact that I had to download a *fairer* copy to supplement my genuine one just goes to show how perverse the lengths PC Publishers are going (and failing) to stop piracy.

I understand DRM - I don't like it but just like with iTunes, it's an evil I'm willing to bear. HOWEVER - system destabilising software installed without my consent, is not and should not be tolerated.

But remember guys, it's not Crytek's fault...they put the time and huge effort into making a great game, please support them. I want a Crysis 2!

5 out of 5 stars More of the same (but still great)   November 5, 2008

If you have already played Crysis, there is not much new here. Instead of playing as Nomad, you play this game as Psycho, another of the special team deployed to the island.

However, the game is very well done and has less of a goal-oriented play style, which allows a bit more freedom to do things as you like instead of how the game designers intended.

Overall, I would say this game is definitely worth playing if you loved Crysis and want some more of it.

P.S.: I know that a lot of people have complained about the DRM mechanism used in this game, but I personally had absolutely no problems with it. In addition, it was convenient to be able to play the game without having to search for the disc everytime someone pulled it out of the drive.

5 out of 5 stars Even with security system-this game is a true pleasure!   November 7, 2008

I'd like to thank game players for their information on this security format unawaringly downloaded on my personal computer by the developer. IT's an eye-opener in that a developer can be quite brazen. Wasn't anyone aware of this added format upon or before the game's release. I didn't see any mention of this at a number of sites I visited before I ordered and got this game on or near it's release date.

Piracy for developers, however, has got to be a major corporate concern. And I can certainly appreciate their side of this issue. Guess what, they in it to make money. And I hope they make money, because of the quality of their product, in this case, Warhead. Both Crysis products are well, splendid! This truly exciting, non-stop action, visuals as brathtaking as Crysis, or more so, I hope bodes well for the developer.

My only concern is that they are forthcoming before a game release to let the consumer know of their security add-ons. But whatever you do, please take heart Mr. Developer, continue to produce such action-packed, carefully and intelligently plotted, visually stunning video games. Having Sykes as the anti-hero, wow!
